IDSA recognized with CPT Educational Excellence Award
IDSA has been awarded the CPT Educational Excellence Award, recognizing the society’s efforts in educating our members about the CPT code set. IDSA has undertaken immense effort to help its members improve their clinical coding. IDSA has maintained and disseminated a comprehensive coding guide for the ID provider, spanning the breadth of codes typically used by ID providers and covered in great. This guide covers inpatient and outpatient settings, E&M codes, critical care billing, telehealth and split/shared visits, in addition to HCPCS codes G2211 and G0545, and includes extensive examples of codes in practice. Most recently, the guide was updated in October 2025 with review and approval from AMA. Explore all the payment and coding resources IDSA has to offer below.
Ask the coder
Infectious diseases providers primarily bill under evaluation and management (E/M) codes, which represent billing for cognitive services, as opposed to procedures. Appropriate documentation and billing for E/M services are vital both for capturing the medical services provided to patients and for ensuring appropriate reimbursement and compensation.
The resources on this page are intended to help the ID clinician optimally bill for patient care services by educating them on both E/M codes and additional billing tools.
