Kalpana Gupta, MD, MPH, is the associate chief of staff and chief of infectious diseases at VA Boston Healthcare System. She is a professor of medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and a lecturer at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Gupta has been independently funded for almost three decades as a clinical investigator with expertise in large database studies and multisite clinical trials. Her research topics include urinary tract infections, surgical site infections, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and multidrug resistance epidemiology. She served as chair of the 2010 IDSA Clinical Practice Guidelines on Treatment of UTI in Women and lead co-author of the IDSA Clinical Practice Guidelines on Asymptomatic Bacteriuria. Her current work focuses on implementation science and medical education aimed at optimizing diagnosis and management of UTIs.
