Oni J. Blackstock, MD, MHS, believes that centering health equity strengthens health outcomes for all. A primary care and HIV physician, researcher and public health leader, Dr. Blackstock is the founder and executive director of Health Justice, a consulting firm that partners with health care and public health organizations to advance health equity and redesign systems to better serve all communities.
Previously, Dr. Blackstock served as assistant commissioner at the NYC Department of Health, where she led the Bureau of HIV. Her leadership helped drive new HIV diagnoses to a historic low. She also launched the agency’s first bureau-based Racial Equity and Social Justice Initiative.
Earlier in her career, Dr. Blackstock was an assistant professor at Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, developing and testing tech- and community-based strategies to improve HIV prevention and treatment for those most impacted by the epidemic. She holds degrees from Harvard College, Harvard Medical School and Yale School of Medicine.
Grounded in justice, Dr. Blackstock works to ensure that marginalized communities have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive and that health equity becomes a lived reality for all.
