Raul Macias Gil, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and associate program director for the Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a major safety-net hospital in Los Angeles. As an infectious diseases specialist, his work focuses on addressing health care disparities affecting LGBTQIA+ individuals, particularly within Hispanic/Latinx and other communities of color disproportionately impacted by HIV and sexually transmitted infections.
His research and advocacy center on culturally responsive, community-informed approaches to HIV and STI prevention. By examining how structural inequities and social determinants of health shape health outcomes, Dr. Macias Gil aims to design interventions that reduce infection rates and improve access to care for marginalized populations. Through his combined roles in clinical care, education and research, he works to close persistent gaps in health care and promote equity in infectious diseases prevention and treatment.
